Carved Pedestal & Ledge | NIDO

Completed: 2025 | Location: Kerhonkson, New York | Scope: Bespoke design and fabrication | Woodworker: Lindsay Black

Following a bout of global travel, our friend and frequent collaborator Manu Garza (et. al collaborative) had an idea for the primary bath in his home. He wanted to incorporate a hand-gouged wood detail he’d spotted in Japan. Bringing the concept to Old Mine, we proposed a pedestal vanity and matching ledge in cherry, with the hand-carved detail a bridging motif between the two elements in this intentionally spare bathroom. The pedestal was constructed using a cooperage technique before Lindsay spent six days carving this detail by hand, and her artistry and patience is apparent in the final result. Shadow lines near the sink basin and along the floor add polish and dimension to the column, while the simple wood ledge transitions into a minimal cherry trim detail that ties the whole room together. These pieces feature a hand-rubbed oil finish, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to shine through.
